Thunder Silenced by Shamrocks

The Junior ‘A’ Shamrocks are on a 6-game winning streak after a dominant 17-7 win over the visiting Langley Thunder Sunday at the Q Center.  It was the first game of a double-header with the WLA Shamrocks hosting the Thunder in part 2 on Father’s Day as both teams emerged victorious in lopsided wins.

Adam Bland got the nod in goal for the Shamrocks with Brayden Wandler at the opposite end of the floor.  The Rocks got out to a 5-0 first period lead, including 3 shorthanded goals and the action started at 1:39 with Casey Wilson getting a shorthanded marker on a run.  Brodie Wade made it 2-0 for the home team at 11:42 on a quick stick in close.  Wilson picked up his second shorthanded goal at 15:52 then collected his hat trick goal at 17:31 off the far post and in.  That prompted a goaltender change for the Thunder as Troy Cozzetto came in.  Wilson’s fourth goal, also down a man, came at 19:07 as he came off the bench to collect a long outlet pass from goaltender Bland to make it 5-0 going into the dressing room.  Victoria was assessed all 3 penalties in the period.

Langley finally hit the scoresheet early in period 2, Kaden Doughty scoring at 1:11 on a  run but Victoria replied just 21 seconds later, Wilson getting his 5th at the start of a 4-goal run.  Kyle Pepper scored unassisted at 2:34, intercepting and diving across the front of the net.  Newcomer Shane Halliwell got his first goal as a Shamrock at 4:45 with a bouncer from outside the dotted line.  Wandler took his place once again between the pipes for Langley.  Denton Macdonald took no notice of the goaltending change scoring yet another shorthanded goal at 6:07 before Langley finally made good on the power play, Stuart Phillips getting in close with a 5-on-3 advantage.  The Rocks took off on another 5-goal run beginning with Patrick Dodds’ marker at 8:48 off the post and in. Travis Pullan made it 11-2 at 9:45 followed by Davis McCulley’s marker at 10:42.  Noah Manning got the next 2 for the Shamrocks, the first at 13:40 on the power play and following up at 14:44 from outside the dotted line, late in the 30-second clock.  Langley got 3 of the next 4 goals to end scoring as Kyle Brunsch got a pair, including one on the power play with Drew Kask getting the other.  Dodds picked up his second for the home side at 16:51.  The score after the second period was 15-5 for the Shamrocks as they held a slight 34-33 edge in shots on goal.

Daniel Ramage came in between the pipes for the home team as the third period saw each team score twice.  Halliwell picked up his second for the Shamrocks just 59 seconds in with a bullet from outside the dotted line. Langley replied with a pair off the sticks of Kask, his second, and Brunsch, his third but a power play goal from Manning, his hat trick goal for the Rocks at 16:55 wrapped the game.

It was a big night offensively for Casey Wilson as he scored 5 goals and added 3 assists.  Noah Manning had the hat trick and 1 helper.  Patrick Dodds and Shane Halliwell each had 2 goals and added 5 and 2 assists respectively.  Denton Macdonald had a goal and 5 helpers with other goals coming from Brodie Wade, Kyle Pepper, Travis Pullan, and Davis McCulley.

The Rocks also picked up a road win Saturday.  They handed the New Westminster Salmonbellies a 12-9 defeat on the mainland.  Casey Wilson had 3 goals and 2 assists in the win with Isaac Swan, Denton Macdonald and Kyle Pepper adding 2 goals each.  Noah Manning, Brodie Wade and Kaden Granberg had singles with Patrick Dodds chipping in 4 assists.

Next action for the Junior ‘A’ Shamrocks is next Saturday, June 25 at 3:30 pm when they will host the New Westminster Salmonbellies. The Tier 1 Junior B Shamrocks are in action prior to that as they host the Maple Ridge Burrards at 12:30.
