Shamrocks Win; Could Get Home Advantage in Playoffs

After a tough battle last night with the Saints, the Shamrocks looked to do it all over again against those same Saints this evening in order to lock down 2 nd place in the standings and home advantage, depending on the outcome from the Delta and Coquitlam game a few hours later.

It took a few minutes to warm up, but the Shamrocks were on fire in the first period and they got a bit of help from the Saints later on in the period as they got into some penalty trouble.

Just over 5 minutes into the first period, JamieJensen opened the scoring for the Shamrocks followed by a goal from ColePickup to make it 2-0 ‘Rocks.

The Saints got on the board shortly after with a goal from TyKlarner , but the celebration didn’t last long as Pickup scored his second of the game 7 seconds after Klarner’s goal to make it a 3-1 game.

As mentioned earlier, the Saints got into penalty trouble late in the first period when JakeBye received an unsportsmanlike call and then KyleEnklemann served an unsportsmanlike bench minor. The Shamrocks made them pay as McLeanChicquen and JakeCullen scored to end the first period at 5-1. The ‘Rocks poured the shots on Saints’ goaltender AndrewGallant as they had 23 shots on goal to the Saints’ 6.

The second period started off with a bang that sizzled off until the midway point. Not even 2 minutes into the second period, TannerRiley and ReesCullen went toe-to-toe as they both received fighting majors and game misconducts.

At the midway point, the Saints made it a 5-2 game when DylanFoulds scored shorthanded, but the ‘Rocks got that goal back on that same powerplay when Cullen netted his second of the game.

The Shamrocks continued to pressure the Saints late in the second, when Pickup got his third and fourth of the game within the final 2 minutes of the period to make it 8-2 ‘Rocks.

The third period was a little mellow compared to the previous periods, as the ‘Rocks laid back and let the clock run down even though the Saints brought some pressure. Goals from QuintonPavan , and Klarner got the Saints to 5 and Pickup notched his 5 th goal of the game to make it a 9-5 victory for the Shamrocks.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Victoria – ColePickup – 5 Goals, 1 Assist

2. Victoria – JakeCullen – 2 Goals, 3 Assists

3. Port Coquitlam – TyKlarner – 3 Goals

The Shamrocks will now sit tight to see if they will clinch that 2nd place spot in the standings or if they will drop to 3rd, but either way, they will be taking on the Delta Islanders in the playoffs. As for the Saints, they will be cleaning out their locker room as they have missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
