Shamrocks Season Over – Awards Given
Well, the season for the Shamrocks is over for 2014 as they went down in straight games in their semi final series against the Coquitlam Adanacs. Still in all, the season wasn’t a failure as the boys gave it a valiant effort. For a young team, a third place finish was a good regular season outcome but the team couldn’t match the depth of the Adanacs.
Team awards were given out Wednesday in a get-together at the Langford Boston Pizza location. Guest MC Steve Duffy from CFAX sports did a great job for the team. Below are the award winners for 2014:
- Top Scorer: McLean Chicquen, a rookie
- Top Rookie: Cole Pickup, still an intermediate aged player
- Top Defensive Player: Chris Kasper
- Sportsman of the Year: combining sportsmanship and ability, Karver Everson
- Most Inspirational Player: Jake Carder
- Most Valuable Player: Team captain Max Fredrickson
- Most Popular: Matt Baxter
- Most Improved Player: Goaltender Charles Claxton
- Best Conditioned: Ryan Fedrigo
The team also presented etched steins and home jerseys to 10 graduating players: Karver Everson, Jake Carder, Derek Lecky, Ryley Brown, Alex Margetson, Brendan Mykle-Winkler, Mason Pynn, Fred Bathurst-Hunt, Matt Justason and Darren Bourret. Congratulations and good luck moving forward in your lacrosse careers.
Three service awards were also presented for outstanding contributions to the Jr. and Intermediate Shamrocks organizations: Bob Reid Merit Award: Jr. Shamrocks Manager Dave Wilkie Bill Russell Service Award: Intermediate & Jr. Rocks Equipment Manager Dano Ryan Shamrock Pride Award: GM and Governor of both the Intermediate and Jr. Shamrocks Rod Wood
Incidentally, the WLA Shamrocks have called Charles Claxton to dress as a back-up to Cody Hagedorn for this Friday’s game against the Burnaby Lakers. Intermediate goaltender Liam Reid was honoured to take on that role last week and even played the last few minutes of the game. Good luck, Charles!
