Rocks Pick Up Road Win
It’s been a while since the Jr. A Shamrocks played at the Q Center but they managed a third straight road win Sunday at the Bill Copeland Arena in Burnaby with an 18-3 victory over the Lakers.
Angus Snow got the start in goal for Victoria while Arjun Gill started for Burnaby. It was actually the home team hitting the scoresheet first, Aidan Wattie picking up a rebound in front to score unassisted 50 seconds in but it would be a long while and 8 goals against before they would find twine again. The Rocks got the tying goal off the stick of Phillip Busenius at 1:51 finding the bottom corner. Off the ensuing faceoff Quinn Cramb gave Victoria the lead at 1:58. Busenius collected his second at 4:02 with a bouncer in close. Team captain Greysen Thompson made it 4-1 with an unassisted tally at 6:56 with a hard shot from outside the dotted line. Ben Pawluk cut in front to score at 7:31. After Dylan Anderson scored Victoria’s sixth goal at 8:44, Gill’s night was over in the Lakers crease as he was replaced by Deklan Morrison. The Shamrocks’ offense kept coming as Marcelo Carreiro tallied at 11:06 and Ryan Lowe went coast to coast to score unassisted at 12:49. Burnaby was able to capitalize on a power play to stop the bleeding at 19:06, Kian Yargeau connecting on a hard, low shot from the dotted line. Carreiro got that one back for the Rocks at 19:28, his second of the game. That made it 9-2 after 20 minutes.
The second period saw Victoria score 6 straight before the Lakers responded. Dylan Anderson had 3 in the period, including the first 2. Ryan Lowe picked up his second of the contest while Luca Pivetta and Jett Klassen each scored unassisted. The Shamrocks made a goaltending change late in the period, inserting Jr. B Tier 1 call-up Tyler Williams into the line-up. He allowed just 1 goal, a shorthanded tally from A.J. Pain at 19:19 that made it 15-3 for the Rocks heading into the second intermission.
Offense slowed in the final 20 minutes, but it was all Victoria as they outscored their hosts 3-0. Lowe picked up his hat trick at 6:19 with a come-around-from-behind shot. Anderson added his fifth at 11:51, finding the top corner and Thompson picked up his second of the game with a low shot at 14:22.
Victoria was led offensively by Ryan Lowe with a 6-point game on 3 goals and 3 helpers while Dylan Anderson had 5 goals and Dawson Wade 5 assists. Both Marcelo Carreira and Greysen Thompson had 2 goals and 2 assists, Phillip Busenius 2 goals, Ben Pawluk a goal and 2 assists, Luca Pivetta 1 of each with Quinn Cramb and Jett Klassen contributing singles. Angus Snow picked up the win with 29 saves and an assist while Tyler Williams made 17 saves in relief. Cooper Anderson was again stellar in the faceoff circle winning 16 of 21.
The Jr. A Shamrocks make their return to the Q Center next Saturday, July 4th when they will host the Coquitlam Adanacs in a 3:30 pm start.
