Junior Shamrocks Present Awards

The Victoria Junior Shamrocks Lacrosse Association presented its annual awards at an event held July 25.  Although the Tier 1 Junior B season is over, several players were honoured for their excellence during the season.

Tier 1 Junior B Award Winners

Lloyd Watson Award to the Top Scorer went to Sam Strother who finished the season with 39 goals and 35 assists for 74 points in 14 games.

Ev and Murray Rhode Trophy for the Most Inspirational Player was presented to Matthew Hermsen

Top Defensive Player made Matthew Hermsen a double winner

Jill Turner Memorial Award for Sportsmanship went to Sean Clark who finished second in team scoring while receiving just one minor penalty

Sid Lougheed Memorial Award recognizing the team’s Top Rookie was won by Ryan Lowe

Most Valuable Player this season went to goaltender Angus Snow

Junior 'A' Shamrocks Awards

Top Scorer was Patrick Dodds who scored 28 goals and added 42 assists for 70 points, second in the league by just 1 point.

Archie Browning Award for the Most Inspirational Player was presented to Aido Solomon who leaves everything on the floor and is a leader in the dressing room.

Top RookieAward was won by goaltender Adam Bland

Sportsman of the Year Award winner for 2022 is Dylan Johannes

Bill and Joan Munro Trophy for the Most Popular Player as chosen by his teammates is Patrick Dodds

Top Defensive Player in a very tight vote this season goes to Owen Russell

Best Conditioned Player chosen by the coaching and training staff is also Owen Russell

Steve Zellinsky Award to the Most Improved Player this season goes to Brody Wade

PeeWee Bradshaw Award for the Most Valuable Player was shared by two players – Patrick Dodds and Denton Macdonald

Several service awards were also presented as follows:

Bob Reid Merit Award to Tier 1 Team Manager Chris Echlin

Bill Russell Service Award to Junior A Video Coach, Nick Murray

Shamrock Pride Award presented to Terry Dennett, a second-time winner of this award.

Grant Hamilton Excellence in Sports and Community Award Junior A player Owen Russell who not only represents the team at events but volunteers his time to help young players to hone their skills.

Impact Spirit Award which exemplifies a positive spirit that contributes in an impactful way to the operational success of the organization.  This is an award created in 2019 and is presented for only the 2nd time this season to Junior A player Casey Wilson.

The Association also made presentations acknowledging the contributions of the following graduating players who make their way out of Junior and who we may see in the WLA, MSL or NLL in future seasons:

Patrick Dodds, Denton Macdonald, Owen Russell, Casey Wilson, Isaac Swan, Jonathon Boyd, Angus Connorton, Travis Pullan, Griffin Hall, Shane Halliwell, Trent Dicicco and Mitchell Sandberg.

While the awards have been presented for the regular season, playoffs continue for the Junior ‘A’ Shamrocks who will look to win their semi final series against the Coquitlam Adanacs in game 5 Tuesday at 5:00 pm at the Q Center.  The winner will go on to face the Langley Thunder who wrapped up their series 3 games to 1 against the Nanaimo Timbermen on Sunday.
