Jr. A Rocks Drop to 2-1

The Jr. A Shamrocks were looking to improve their record to 3-0 at the Q Center Saturday but it was not to be as they fell 13-7 to the visiting Coquitlam Adanacs. Coquitlam held period leads of 4-1 and 8-5 en route to the win and outshot the home team by a 44-32 margin.

Angus Snow was the starting goaltender for Victoria and Owen Byers for the Adanacs. Xander Freeman opened the scoring for the visitors at 6:34 but the Rocks evened the score at 14:35 Marcelo Carreiro getting in close, that goal coming shorthanded. Coquitlam got a power play marker at 15:01, Kai Hartley finishing some nice passing in close. Parker Kennedy and Matty Dane added goals at 17:28 and 18:44 to make it 4-1 for the Adanacs after 20 minutes.

Victoria bounced back early in the middle frame, Dane Kinney getting a power play goal, picking the top corner just 49 seconds in. Ronin London drew the home team within a goal at 1:57 with a hard, low shot from outside the dotted line. They would get no closer as Coquitlam rattled off 4 straight goals, beginning with a second from Hartley at 3:53 on the power play. That was followed by 3 even strength Coquitlam tallies before Carter Quested scored a pair for Victoria, both during a 5-minute power play. The first came at 14:23 on a bullet from outside the dotted line and the second at 18:19 with just 8 seconds left in the man advantage.

The Adanacs opened period 3 with a pair of goals before Quested collected his hat trick goal at 6:57 but Coquitlam scored 3 of the next 4, all on the power play with Ben Pawluk connecting for the home team at 14:09, the filling in the sandwich.

Carter Quested led Victoria offensively with 3 goals while Ben Pawluk added a goal and 2 helpers. Other goals came from Dane Kinney, Ronin London and Marcelo Carreiro who also added 2 assists.

Next up for the Shamrocks is a road game Monday against the Delta Islanders before returning to the Q Center next Saturday, May 30 to face the New Westminster Salmonbellies. Game time is 3:30 pm and if you want more lacrosse action, come early and watch the Jr. B Tier 1 Shamrocks take on the Port Coquitlam Saints at 12:30 pm.
