Five Jr. Shamrocks Drafted

by Janice Huckin

The WLA held its annual draft at the Langley Events Centre last evening and 5 Jr. Shamrocks were chosen, 4 of whom may have the opportunity of continuing in the green and white with the Shamrocks.

Drafting fourth in the first round, the Shamrocks chose Cole Pickup from the Jr.Shamrocks.  Pickup played 5 regular season WLA games as a call-up last season, scoring 9 goals and adding 10 assists.  That was in addition to leading the Jr. Shamrocks in scoring with 37 goals and 58 assists in the regular season.  He is currently away on a hockey scholarship at the University of Nebraska Omaha.  Without a second round pick as the draft began, the Shamrocks made a trade with Coquitlam whereby they sent Evan Messenger to the Adanacs for the second pick of the round which they used to pick up speedster Danny Smith. Smith played 9 playoff games as a call-up with the WLA Rocks, electrifying fans.  Round 4 saw the third Jr. Shamrock selected, defender Zac Christianson being taken 25th overall.  In the final round, Rees Cullen was taken.  The Shamrocks also chose Adam Golia and Alec Molander from the Nanaimo Jr. Timbermen and Tommy Scanlan from the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs.

Nick Preston of the Jr. Shamrocks was selected by the Nanaimo Timbermen in the 7thround, 45th overall.

Congratulations to all the players selected.
