Alumni Night at WLA Shamrocks Game
This Friday, at the Shamrocks home game at the Q Centre it will be a very special night for a number of reasons. It will be Alumni Night – what does that mean?
Well, for one thing it means there will be a pre-game tailgate party and proceeds from the food and drink will benefit the Shamrocks Alumni. For another thing, there will be many former Shamrocks players in attendance with whom you can mingle before and after the game.
Another fundraiser for the Alumni Association will be the raffling of a 1999 Mann Cup game-worn Gary Gait jersey. Please don’t forgot to go buy those tickets. Who wouldn't want a Gait jersey?!!
The Alumni Association will be presenting $3000 in scholarships to deserving local lacrosse players attending post-secondary institutions prior to the game.
Members of the 1976 Minto Cup winning team will be in attendance and take part in the opening faceoff. Many more members will also participate in special events at the Jr. Shamrocks game on Saturday at 5:00.
Something that will be very special for long-time Shamrocks fans will be the retiring of the number of former Shamrock great, Fred ‘Whitey’ Severson. This is the first ever jersey/number to be retired by the Shamrocks, a truly historic occasion as Whitey was a member of the 1955 Mann Cup winning team and went on to play and coach. He will be in attendance as his number goes to the rafters of the Q Centre..
Oh yeah – on the floor the 5-2 Shamrocks will be taking on the 3-3-1 New Westminster Salmonbellies. The Bellies are another storied franchise so two great rivals mixing it up on Alumni night. Great action.
Don’t forget the Intermediate Shamrocks get back into action Saturday as they also play the New Westminster Salmonbellies. Game time at the Q Centre is 1:30 pm.
